Când treci prin Serbia, te apucă jalea să vezi o ţară care, după 10 ani de război, după bombardamente, sancţiuni economice şi fără să fie în Uniunea Europeană, este cu mult mai curată, oamenii sunt …

    Genial! :) Cine a avut ideea?

    @jonathan: thanks for your explanation. my problem wasn’t necessarily with your piece, but with the absolutism of its title (no idea if it was you who named it like that or our dear hosts from SRSFF). you can’t claim you’re going to talk about “Britain’s greatest SF writers” (that is the equivalent of the Romanian translation of the title) and speak at length only about Al Reynolds and Banks, with a passing mention of Charlie Stross. and scrap all the rest of the authors. the whole sounded to me like it was written for kindergarten kids. for people who’ve never read science fiction. i’m well aware of your laudable activity (if i remember correctly, we’ve even met at Eastercon in March 2008) and my intention was not to diminish your merits in any way. but i did feel uncomfortable being treated like i had just had my first encounter with science fiction, on a site where SF entuziasts are supposed to hang out.
    @mugur: ce anume era de inteles? intentiile bune nu scuza condescendenta care emana din articolul respectiv. si da, stim ca n-ai rabdare cu “neintelesii”.

    I’m okay with “The Greatest…” even though it could be “The Best…”, as romanian title’s translation. So it’s just a wording issue (I hope) – I wouldn’t have any problem if the title would read “The Most Successful…”. In the end, it doesn’t really matter, your response was clarifying. Thank you.
    “Enthusiast” is again just a huge semantic mishap – in our little troubled community it stands for someone who’s willing to buy and able to enjoy whatever bears the “SF” label, regardless the quality or other attributes. Therefore not a very reliable source of criticism. Obviously it’s not the case here.
    Adrian :)

    Condescendenta cu sensul direct sau cel peiorativ? And mishap is “avort spontan”? Or, maybe, “Ghinion”?

  • Bear says:

    @mugur: sensul peiorativ, desigur.

  • Aspoiu says:

    an unfortunate accident

  • Aspoiu says:

    Well, after seeing “mishap = abortion” I doubt the comments were properly translated, without any “mishaps”. Lol.
